32 Things About Me

I keep meaning to do one of those "100 things about me" and just haven't gotten to it. So, since I turn 32 tomorrow & won't be around much the next few days:

32 things about me:
1. I was born in Connecticut, lived there until I was 26 and plan to move back there within the next 2 years.
2. But I love to travel and get wanderlust several times a year.
3. My favorite places to visit include Santa Barbara, CA; Doolin, Ireland; New Orleans, LA; Savannah, GA; Cape Cod (so many great towns!)MA.
4. I have a 1 inch scar on my index finger that I got while bartending in college at a restaurant called Paparazzi.
5. I love telling people that I got the scar from "the paparazzi."
6. I have a very silly sense of humor.
7. I am a bit of a germaphobe.
8. But, I am very rarely sick!
9. 10 years ago next weekend, I met the love of my life.
10. And we married and have two beautiful children.
11. Being a stay at home mom is much more difficult and much more fulfilling than I imagined.
12. I didn't ski the entire 4 years we lived in Colorado. (pregnant, broken leg, pregnant, moved!)
13. If it is pink, polka dotted, miniature, or monogrammable - chances are I will want to buy it.
14. I am a voracious reader and very quick about it as well.
15. I have 4 manuscripts in my computer and another one in my file cabinet.
16. This is the year that I do something about #15!
17. I love cooking, baking, cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, et al.
18. I've often thought I would love to have my own cooking show.
19. But most likely, I will just publish a cookbook.
20. I am quite possibly the least threatening person on the planet. I am the person lost children, old people, and stray animals seek out.
21. But I recently upped all my upper-body lifting to 70 lbs. so watch out! I am stronger than I look!
22. There is no excuse for consuming bad wine, coffee, chocolate or cheese. In college, I would happily buy less of everything in order to buy the good stuff.
23. Sometimes I think I would have made a good Amish person.
24. Except I'm pretty sure that would mean no more blogging, good wine, or Grey's Anatomy.
25. Or blowdrying my hair. (Ok - so the Amish thing is out!)
26. I hate surprise parties.
27. I love surprise gifts, though.
28. I have studied Russian, French, Spanish, and German (and English obvs.)
29. The best compliment I ever received was from a Russian friend who told me my Russian had no trace of American accent whatsoever.
30. I am proud to be an American - and take the responsibility to be an educated voter very seriously.
31. I am going to make my own birthday cake this year (and not JUST because I am a control freak, but also because I love to bake & so it's sort of a treat both ways. I get to make my cake & eat it too!)
32. I am a stickler for both manners and punctuation. (But I overuse the parenthesis like crazy!)

I am going to have to come back & add 68 more things some night soon when I can't sleep. Which will probably be Sunday night when Jon works overnight.

Have a great weekend all!

First of all, Happy Birthday! I am always so impressed when people are bilingual. Mostly because there are days I feel like my knowledge of the English language feels so limited. Oy!

Well have a great 32nd Birthday. May all of your wishes come true. Enjoy the cake!!

Thanks:) TO be fair, my French and German are VERY weak at this point from lack of use. I'd like to get back into some kind of conversational Russian class so that doesn't fade on me too!

Happy Birthday!!! Have a fabulous day.

Every time I read your blog I think, "how did such a quintessentially East Coast girl and a hopelessly West Coast girl get to be such good friends?" :) I'm glad we are, even if our interests are so different.

I should send you the UCCS newspaper. On the front page alone there were 3 grammatical errors. When will people realize good grammar is not optional? Poor grammar is the fastest way to make an intelligent person sound stupid. (My rant for the day)...yes, it's a fragment but *I* am not publishing my comment in a newspaper!

I think we are good friends because although we have different tastes we have similar values (and similar sense of humor goes a long way too).

Happy Birthday! I love the one about being a good amish person. I always think I'd be a good "colonial-times" person :)

I love your story about being scarred by the paparazzi!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!!!

A similar sense of humor -- that would be warped, right? (Hi, Julie!)

Happy birthday, Mizz Kate! Enjoy 32 -- sheesh, how young that sounds now to my old 36-1/2 year old bones!

Happy Birthday!

I use parenthesis way too much also!

Happy Birthday! I have wanderlust, too. And I love Cape Cod. (I don't appreciate Savannah because it's so close, I guess).

That is the best compliment you can receive from a native speaker--no accent. My girls learned French in both middle and high school from native speakers and they are very proud they have no American "accent".

Happy Birthday! Ditto on so many of your 32 items. Impressed on the bilingual talent. I took Latin--4yrs. Manus Manum Reddit. That is all I can recall!

Loved reading your 32 things. I'm in the process of doing my 100 things and it is taking forever. I want it to be meaningful--I also like to use these----- in my blogs. Where did you live in Colorado??? I was there for 6 years

your scar story sounds really cool! I got my scar just by falling up a stair- definitely not as cool!

Kate - actually not so exciting. I was setting up the bar in the morning & reached under a bog metal cooler to adjust it & there was a sharp piece of metal sticking down - ouch!

madaboutplaid - I lived in Colorado Springs.

I think we'd be great friends in person! We could wax poetic about grammar and Amish sensibilities.
